Bibliography
The following were the sources of
most of the information in this Website
- The Long Island Rail Road, a Comprehensive
History (7 volumes) by Vincent Seyfried (1961-75)
- Early History of the Long Island Railroad
by Mildred H. Smith (1958)
- Steel Rails to the Sunrise by Ron Ziel*
and George H. Foster (1965, revised edition 1987)
- The Centennial History of the Pennsylvania
Railroad Co. 1846-1946 by George H. Burgess and Miles C. Kennedy
(1949)
- The Long Island Railroad in Early Photographs
by Ron Ziel (1990)
- Change at Ozone Park by Herbert George
(1993)
- Victorian Railroad Stations of Long Island
by Ron Ziel and Richard Wettereau (1988)
- Bob Emery's hand drawn maps and notes
of the LIRR (late 1950's). Mr. Emery (b.1925-d.1995) was a long time conductor and historian of the
LIRR, who created a set of hand drawn maps of the entire LIRR
as is existed in the 1950's, as well as how it had changed over
the years since then. I was fortunate to acquire a copy of these
(the originals
were donated to the library of SUNY at Stony Brook).
*Mr. Ziel can often be found at local (Long
Island) train shows where he sells copies of his many fine pictures
of the old LIRR.
